David Alan Earnest is a Nampa, Idaho native now residing in Boise. David graduated from Vallivue HS, and has a bachelor’s degree in composition from the Wheaton College Conservatory. He has been composing in the Treasure Valley for over 25 years.
David has composed works in most of the genre including chamber music, orchestral, choir, solo piano, etc. He conducted his Cello Concerto with the Boise Philharmonic, with Sam Smith as soloist in 2002. In 2005 Caritas Chorale of Sun Valley commissioned “Immense Ranges of High Mountains”, a large choral and orchestra work with soloists, commemorating the bicentennial celebration of Lewis and Clark in Idaho. The 50 minute, 7 movement piece was performed 5 times in Idaho, and also (with piano accompaniment) in Germany, Austria, and Italy. The follow up chorus/orchestra work on the history of the Nez Perce tribe, “Nez Perce: Promises”, premiered in 2012. Other works have also been performed internationally. David has also collaborated with Idaho Dance Theatre on 7 premieres.
In 2009 Earnest was awarded a Fellowship from Idaho Commission on the Arts, for excellence in the arts.
In progress is a piece for 4 cellos and piano, a Cello Quintet. And “Turbulence” a concert overture commissioned by the Boise Philharmonic, was performed 7 times by the Houston Symphony in 2012, and will be performed by the Boise Philharmonic in May of 2013.
