Samuel Smith, Artistic Director for the Music from the Fringe Project
Samuel Smith has served as Assistant Principal Cello in the Florida Symphony, Section and Assistant Principal in the Grant Park Symphony (Chicago) and Principal Cello in the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic and as a member of the Freimann String Quartet. While in Ft. Wayne he was a frequent soloist on subscription concerts performing concerti by Haydn, Saint-Saens, Tchaikowski and Shostakovich, as well as the Brahms Double Concerto and the Triple Concerto of Beethoven.
Samuel is the cellist of the Langroise Trio, in residence at the College of Idaho, where he teaches cello and directs the college Sinfonia. He also serves as Associate Principal Cellist of the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra where he has been a featured soloist performing concerti by Saint-Saens, Shostakovich and Barber, as well as the world premiere of a cello concerto composed for him by David Alan Earnest. He has also been a featured soloist with the Idaho Dance Theatre, Idaho Falls Symphony and the Boise Baroque Orchestra.
Samuel was a founding member of the Northeast Indiana Camber Festival, and founder and Artistic Director of the Sawtooth Cello Festival which combined the study of cello and martial arts. He has served on the cello faculty of Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory and Boise State University, and is the conductor of the Sun Valley Youth Orchestra. In April, 2012, Samuel performed as cello soloist in
Strauss' "Don Quixote" with the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra.
